If i only knew how to live the songs I sing in worship services.

Theres an old Baptist church song that says " this world is not my home, I'm just a stranger passing through". Its a catchy tune while inside the protection of four walls, surrounded with fellow believers that are bouncing with positivity... or appear to be.

When Monday rolls around the steady beat of the drummer and the pitch of the soul soothing organ is slowly drowned out. It seems that the song gets lost in the midst of all of our other thoughts, about bills... fuel for the car... school work... no work... family and dear friends. And we tend to forget that this world is only temporary, and we are pilgrims passing through.

But if we could live what we sang, maybe the perceptions of our lives could change.

Psalms 121 is called a "pilgrim's song" said to be used by travelers that were on their way to the temple to worship. The beginning starts with a solid declaration. The writer says that he will lift up his eyes to the hills, because that is where his help comes from.

The traveler is conscientious that the help that he was in need of , was not attainable from another man, woman or fellow traveler. The help he required to get through his voyage could only come from God.

Isn't it funny how you can start out with a crowd, but then end up solo?

I love the fact that he lifts his eyes up... to the hills, that are symbolic of God being above all and everything. His eyes were not fixed on his issues, troubles, to do list or any other task... his eyes were elevated. Maybe even singing the Baptist hymn ( not factual) .  This world is not my home, I'm just a stranger passing through... Hum that verse to yourself the next time issues or people seem permanent... if only to remind yourself to keep on journeying.
